Built for the plan review challenge architects know well

Kestrel Labs began with a question: why do corrections follow submission when the violations were already in the model?

Our story

Denver, 2023

Kestrel Labs was founded in Denver in 2023 by two people experienced with compliance workflows at architecture and engineering firms. One built compliance process tools for AEC practices; the other developed parsers for BIM file formats used in construction technology analysis.

They saw the same pattern: most plan check corrections could be identified from data already in the BIM model. The gap was a structured check that could compare that data with applicable code sections before submission.

Kestrel Labs closed that gap by working with architecture firms in Denver and along the Front Range during a private beta. We checked real projects and refined the library against plan reviewer corrections. Early access ran from late 2023 through mid-2025 across 30+ projects.

We are based in Denver, serving the commercial AEC market in Colorado and expanding jurisdictions.

The team

Three people building the compliance tool the AEC market needs.

Marian Pulford, CEO and Co-Founder of Kestrel Labs

Marian Pulford

CEO and Co-Founder

Built compliance workflow tools for AEC firms, specializing in regulatory process automation and permit review cycles. Joined Kestrel Labs with a practical understanding of where manual compliance tracking fails as project volume grows.

Aleksander Nowak, CTO and Co-Founder of Kestrel Labs

Aleksander Nowak

CTO and Co-Founder

Works in computational geometry and BIM file format parsing, with experience creating model-based analysis tools for construction technology. At Kestrel Labs, designed the BIM parser and rule engine architecture from the ground up, beginning with IFC format internals.

Priya Mehta, Head of Customer Success at Kestrel Labs

Priya Mehta

Head of Customer Success

Focused on software adoption with architecture and engineering firms, including permit review cycles and practical integration gaps. Leads onboarding and design partner relationships at Kestrel Labs.

What we stand for

Three principles guide our product decisions and customer work.

Accuracy first

A false positive sends your team after a nonexistent problem. We compare check accuracy with real plan reviewer findings from beta projects and report results openly instead of claiming unproven coverage.

Cite the code

Each Kestrel Labs finding cites its specific code section. Your team can open the provision, read the requirement, and verify the flagged issue. Our outputs are not black boxes.

Tool, not authority

Kestrel Labs provides preflight analysis for your design team. It is not a plan review, does not grant approval, and does not speak for a jurisdiction. The architect of record remains responsible for the design and permit submission.
